It's official, Laura is now on her way to Iraq. She left home last night at about 1:45 am and took off for Norfolk a couple hours later. She has the honor of spending the day in Norfolk as she waits for her next flight, tonight after midnight. It could be worse... she told me about some soldiers who were stuck in Norfolk for more than a week waiting for someone to find a flight (thanks to the collapse of ATA).
[Laura asked that I remove the actual trip details until she has arrived]. Luckily she is fully equipped with about a dozen movies for her PSP and loads of content on her iPod to help pass the time.
From what I am hearing, she will be in Kuwait [censored] acclimating to the area and getting some additional training. For those counting the days (me?) her 179 days don't officially start until she lands at her base in Iraq, so the sooner she gets past Kuwait, the better.
OK, now to the important stuff... her address in Iraq. Don't hesitate to send her notes, cards, pictures or anything else. I'm sure you can imagine how each day can be better for her if something new seems arrive in the mail almost every day. The good part, this is considered a US address, so a standard 1st class stamp (or similar postage) is all you need.
Her address:
Captain Laura DeSio
MNF-I SJA (LAOTF)
FOB SHIELD
APO AE 09348
I will post this address again (several time actually) to ensure it is always easily accessible.
